  1. Unfortunately, most of those are not available in Canada…and I have no idea why not! The only two I can get are the Tab A 8.0 (1280×800 display version) and the Amazon HD 8 (1280×800 display) – not the plus. Both suck. I have a Tab S 8.4 with a 2560×1600 OLED display that is 6 years old…there is nothing on the market that can touch that today…I really don’t know why! I’m also not sure why Canada keeps getting stiffed on the higher end technology? It doesn’t work where it’s colder?

    • Hello Dale,

The Samsung’s newest 8-inch tablet – Galaxy Tab A 8.4″ is available at official Samsung Canada website. You can consider it as one of your options. Thanks.

    • Yes, I too still use my Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4. I find the size and aspect ratio perfect. I very much appreciate the 2560×1600 OLED display. But, I find the Exynos 5420 to be slow, and it offers no hardware support for decoding H.265. I wish there were a more modern replacement for the Tab S 8.4.

  4. I also have an old tab s2. I have tried to get a newer one and they are heavy with poor displays. I am likely to simply get a re-furb on my s2 when it finally dies. I have used in for several hours a day since 2015 and have no idea why the screens on the news tabs are so bad.

    • Please do not compare S-series tablets with budget ones. Now there are no 8 inch tablet as flagships.
you can compare S2 with S7 if you want to have the same series.

I also own an S2 and I love it. 5mm thick tablet is something that I fell it will not see again.

  5. Hi,
Incredible, no more tablet with a 4:3 ratio screen.
Everybody have to watch movie and play on a tablet
Reading a web page is worse with Large screen.
    We are in 2022 🙁

  6. Wow! I too have been looking for a modern version of my tab S2 8.0 and have found the exact same problems! I wish they would make something like it now, same aspect ratio, wait, screen, it is perfect! Mine still works but is getting chuggy, maybe I can speed it up.

  7. I don’t know why Samsung doesn’t make 8-inch tablets again, maybe they think the s ultra series is a good replacement for an 8-inch tablet when in reality they aren’t and every time they release tablets they don’t include that size, a shame because many of us would like to upgrade our tablets to more powerful ones but unfortunately they have forgotten about 8-inch ones, the only decent tablet (not android) of that size is the iPad mini. Like many, I’m still stuck with the S2, which to date is still wonderful despite its age, hopefully for the Galaxy Tab S9 or S10 they’ll come out in that size again, I’d be the first to buy one

  8. I am thinking the same too. I am using the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active3 (8″) which can be used as a phone. I love it. It is rugged and you’ll never be afraid to drop it. Samsung has released the Active4 pro which is 10″, but there is no 8″ yet as I am too waiting to upgrade my Active3 (64GBytes storage which I find not enough) as I want my next Active tablet to have more internal storage. So for now, you can consider the Active3 until the next 8″ tablets from Samsung will be available (which I am also waiting for).

  9. I have a Lenovo Y700 Legion 8.8 inch gaming tablet. It’s got a Snapdragon 870, 12 gigs of RAM, MicroSD slot, a headphone jack, nice display and 120 hz refresh rate. Its the only 8 inch Android tablet that can compete with the iPad mini in performance and it’s the only 8 inch Android tablet that I will use. The others are just too slow.
